David P. Sutton

Born in Canada, David was educated in England and the United States.  He is a graduate of the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee with a B.A. degree in English Literature.

After Emory University Law School, he spent six years on active duty with the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator, and served as a combat pilot in Southeast Asia.  David holds the rank of captain in the Naval Reserve.  Following a distinguished Navy career, he retired with 32 years of active and reserve duty.  David currently serves as the president of the Memphis Council of the Navy League of the United States.

Following an MBA at the University of North Florida and a six-year career in commercial banking in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was a vice president with Wells Fargo Bank, David joined FedEx in 1980.  In his 37 years at FedEx, David held a number of management positions in corporate training and aircraft fleet development, and was instrumental in developing the FedEx fleet from the original 32 Falcon jets to almost 700 aircraft.  He recently retired as Managing Director – Aircraft Acquisitions & Sales. 

David holds both a Flight Engineer license and an Airline Transport Pilot rating, with qualifications in the Electra, 727 and Falcon 20 aircraft, and has over 7,000 hours of flight time.

David is a charter member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) and former chairman of the ISTAT Foundation board of trustees; he currently serves as an officer on the ISTAT board of directors.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. 

In 2016 he established VLF Aviation Services, LLC, an aircraft trading and consulting firm based in Miami, Florida.  David is an active member of the Society of International Business Fellows (SIBF).  David splits his time between Memphis and Miami.
